The Numerical Estimation of the Error Induced by the Valence Approximation
We describe a systematic expansion for full QCD. The leading term in the
expansion gives the valence approximation. The expansion reproduces full QCD if

Matching the High Momentum Modes in a Truncated Determinant Algorithm
Within a truncated determinant algorithm, two alternatives are discussed for
including systematically the remaining ultraviolet modes. Evidence is presented
that these modes are accurately described by an effective action involving only

Wind Turbine Design, Performance, And Economic Analysis
This paper is an investigation of the economic feasibility of small scale (1 to 70 kw) wind energy conversion systems (WECS). It can be shown that the wind system productivity and therefore the relative cost of the product which it produces is completely dependent on the wind regime under consideration. The mean wind speed, standard deviation, and wind profile are the most significant parameters to be used in the investigation of cost of product from a wind system. The purpose of this work is not to find an optimum wind system, but to give the reader enough information to make an informed decision as to whether or not a wind system configuration could meet the particular need under consideration; the wind system appropriate to a residential home owner is quite different from that for a dairy farmer, for example. The decision ultimately boils down to the cost of usable energy, i.e., cents/kwhr of those kwhrs thatcan be used. Various wind machines will be designed and priced. They will then be superimposed onto different wind regimes modeled by the Weibull distribution for a first approximation of the cost of product at that site using that machine. It will be clear that the same machine will have different cost effectiveness at different sites, and that the cost-ofuseful-energy-product will vary, site-to-site, for the same machine
SWECS tower dynamics analysis methods and results
Several different tower dynamics analysis methods and computer codes were used to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of both guyed and freestanding wind turbine towers. These analysis methods are described and the results for two types of towers, a guyed tower and a freestanding tower, are shown. The advantages and disadvantages in the use of and the accuracy of each method are also described
Should traditional healing be integrated within the mental health services in Sámi areas of northern Norway?: patient views and related factors
Artikkel som diskuterer integrering av tradisjonell helbredelse i psykisk helsevern i samiske områder i Nord-Norge.OBJECTIVES: the purpose of this study was to evaluate whether including traditional healing methods within mental health services is desirable among users of these services in Sámi areas of northern Norway. STUDY DESIGN: a cross-sectional questionnaire based survey among users of the mental health services in Finnmark and Nord-Troms Norway. METHODS: the percentages of participants desiring traditional healing modalities within the health services were calculated, and univariate and multivariate analysis were performed with respect to factors associated with a desire for integration. RESULTS: a total of 186 users responded to the survey, of which 72 reported some degree of Sámi cultural affiliation. Forty-eight had Sámi-speaking grandparents on both sides of the family. The desire for the integration of traditional healing was high among all with a Sámi cultural background. Eighty-one percent of those with Sámi speaking grandparents on both sides of the family desired such an integration. In a regression analysis, both Sámi affiliation and having used traditional healing forms were significantly associated with a desire for the integration of traditional healing within mental health services. CONCLUSIONS: the integration of traditional healing methods within health services has been suggested both by the World Health Organization and is used in some of the services to Indigenous populations in Western countries. This study shows that such integration is desirable among Sámi users of mental health services in Norway
The Role of Cumulative Risk Assessment in Decisions about Environmental Justice
There is strong presumptive evidence that people living in poverty and certain racial and ethnic groups bear a disproportionate burden of environmental health risk. Many have argued that conducting formal assessments of the health risk experienced by affected communities is both unnecessary and counterproductive—that instead of analyzing the situation our efforts should be devoted to fixing obvious problems and rectifying observable wrongs. We contend that formal assessment of cumulative health risks from combined effects of chemical and nonchemical stressors is a valuable tool to aid decision makers in choosing risk management options that are effective, efficient, and equitable. If used properly, cumulative risk assessment need not impair decision makers’ discretion, nor should it be used as an excuse for doing nothing in the face of evident harm. Good policy decisions require more than good intentions; they necessitate analysis of risk-related information along with careful consideration of economic issues, ethical and moral principles, legal precedents, political realities, cultural beliefs, societal values, and bureaucratic impediments. Cumulative risk assessment can provide a systematic and impartial means for informing policy decisions about environmental justice
Numerical Evidence for the Observation of a Scalar Glueball
We compute from lattice QCD in the valence (quenched) approximation the
partial decay widths of the lightest scalar glueball to pairs of pseudoscalar
quark-antiquark states. These predictions and values obtained earlier for the
scalar glueball's mass are in good agreement with the observed properties of
